2022 Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament Set For April 9

One of the best offseason events in Alaska has been Homer’s Winter King Salmon Tournament, which enjoyed a great 2021 run following COVID-19 issues that canceled the 2020 edition and was again delayed about a month from its usual date.

Here are details for the now announced date for 2022 from the Homer Chamber of Commerce, which again will go with an April tournament.

28TH ANNUAL HOMER WINTER KING SALMON TOURNAMENT DATE IS APRIL 9, 2022

HOMER, September 24, 2021 – The Homer Chamber of Commerce and the Winter King Salmon Tournament Committee are very pleased to announce that the 28thAnnual Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022.  “The April date in 2021 allowed many more people to participate in the tournament so we will try it again in 2022” said Brad Anderson, Homer Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. 

This one-day tournament awards tens of thousands of dollars in prize money to the largest Kings caught.  There are additional opportunities to compete in side tourneys and random prize drawings every hour of the tournament. 

The 2021 tournament was one for the record books. It had an all-time high number of registered angers, 1,562 and a record number of boats, 455. It also had the youngest champion in tournament history, 10-year-old Andrew Marley with a fish weighing 25.62 lbs.  Andrew’s total payout including side tourneys was $87,027. The total tournament cash awards in 2021 were $238,309.
