HALUTU RIDGE TO PARSONS PEAK IN UNIT 1D IS CLOSED TO MOUNTAIN GOAT HUNTING
(DOUGLAS)- This emergency order (R1-21-24) closes the resident and nonresident goat hunting seasons in that area bounded by West Creek on the north side, Taiyasanka Harbor on the south side, Ferebee River/Glacier on the west, and the Taiya Inlet and River on the east, in Game Management Unit 1D. This order takes effect at 11:59 pm, Tuesday November 5, 2024.
A guideline harvest objective of 2-3 points (male goats = 1 point, female goats = 2 points) was established by ADF&G for the area described above. As of Monday November 4, 2024, a nanny and a billy were harvested for a total of three points; therefore, the guideline harvest level has been met. Due to the vulnerability of goats in this area and the likelihood of additional harvest, an emergency order closing the area to mountain goat hunting has been issued effective 11:59pm, Tuesday November 5, 2024. Those portions of Unit 1D not affected by this emergency order, and not previously closed by emergency order, will remain open until the harvest guidelines are reached or the seasons come to their scheduled conclusions.
Those portions of Unit 1D not affected by emergency orders will remain open until the harvest guidelines are reached or the seasons come to their scheduled conclusions.
Biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game encourage hunters to target male goats to allow for a higher sustainable harvest. Hunters with questions about goat hunting can contact Hannah Manninen in the Douglas Area Office at 907-465-4329.
