State Extends Resident Moose Hunting in the RM617 Quinhagak Area Moose Hunt
(Bethel) The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announces an emergency extension for moose hunting in a portion of Unit 18. This Emergency Order extends the state resident moose season in Unit 18 covered under that portion south of the Eek River drainage and north of and including the Carter Bay drainage, under the registration permit hunt RM617.
This hunt extension is intended to support local households impacted by wind and storm surge damage resulting from Typhoon Halong and households that were unable to harvest a moose during the fall season. There were 273 moose observed in the last minimum count in March of 2024. With a harvest objective of 25 bull moose and only 4 moose reported harvested during the fall season, this population can support additional harvest.
Permits will be issued in Quinhagak. Alaska residents who have not harvested a moose since July 1, 2025 are eligible to participate, and must possess a valid Alaska resident hunting license. The bag limit is one bull moose, excluding male calves, and the extended season will be from November 5, 2025, to January 15, 2026, or until the harvest objective is met.
All successful hunters must report within 5 days either online at hunt.alaska.gov, by calling (907)543-2433, by mail, or at the Bethel Fish and Game office. Unsuccessful hunters and those that did not hunt must report by January 31, 2026.
All other moose hunting regulations in Unit 18 remain unchanged by this advisory announcement.
