Teens Plead Guilty To Illegal Fortymile Caribou Harvest; Get Fines, Probation

Update: On 11/29/2021, Gabriel Dobson and Dalton Borton plead guilty to taking caribou closed season. Both are fined $1,500 with $750 suspended, ordered to pay restitution for the caribou taken unlawfully, and placed on 1 year of probation.

On 10/30/2021, Coldfoot AWT conducted a traffic stop on a white Toyota pickup near the Colorado Creek Trailhead after receiving a tip the occupants may have taken a caribou near mile 95 of the Elliott Highway. Investigation revealed two occupants of the vehicle had each taken a caribou at approximately 100 mile Elliott Highway, where the caribou season closed on 09/20/2021. Gabriel Dobson (age 19), and Dalton Borton (age 18), both of Chugiak, were issued criminal misdemeanor summons for Taking Caribou Closed Season with a mandatory court appearance in the Nenana Court. The rifle used and both caribou were seized, the caribou have been donated to a charity in Fairbanks.
