Alaska Bycatch Advisory Council Created by Commissioner of Fish and Game

March 10, 2023 (Juneau) — The Alaska Bycatch Advisory Council has been established by Commissioners Order No. 1, from the Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Doug Vincent-Lang. This Advisory Council is being formed to advise ADF&G and policy makers on ways to implement the recommendations contained in the final report of the Alaska Bycatch Review Task Force. It is envisioned the Council will meet telephonically 3-4 times annually and prepare an annual report to the Commissioner.

“This Bycatch Advisory Council brings major stakeholders into the fold to really drill down into the bycatch issue,” said ADF&G Commissioner Doug Vincent-Lang. “It will form another in the growing collection of tools we have to effectively and transparently improve the health and sustainability of Alaska’s fisheries.”

The Commissioner Order No. 1 has been posted to the Alaska Bycatch Review Task Force (ABRT) website where further information about the Advisory Council can be found along with historical ABRT information.
