Pasagshak River Open to Sport Fishing for Sockeye Salmon

(Kodiak) – In support of restoring fishing opportunities, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is reopening sport fishing for sockeye salmon in the Pasgshak River drainage effective 12:01 a.m. Thursday, July 27 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 2023. This action allows anglers to target sockeye salmon in the Pasagshak River drainage and restores the bag and possession limits to two sockeye salmon.

“Through July 23, a total of 2,232 sockeye salmon have been counted through the Pasagshak River weir at the outlet of Lake Rose Teed and more are continuing to build up below the weir,” stated Area Management Biologist Tyler Polum. “The run is just past the historical midpoint and is projected to achieve the escapement goal of 3,000 sockeye salmon even with harvest that will come with reopening the sport fishery.”
