Southeast Alaskans Fined, Have Hunting Privileges Suspended After Violations

KINY radio reported that two hunters from the Southeast Alaska community of Kake were fined and had their hunting licenses suspended for one year for various violations.

On 12-14-21, Dannielle Connolly, age 32 of Kake, and Matthew Ashenfelter age 34 of Kake appeared in Petersburg court and were convicted  to multiple wildlife offenses.  Charges included Take Game with Artificial Light, Take Big Game in a Closed  Area, Shoot Game From the Roadway, and Hunting Without a Valid License.  Ashenfelter was sentenced to fines of $2800 with $1750 suspended, loss of hunting license for one year, loss of hunting rifle and placed on probation for one year.  Connolly was sentenced to fines of $3050 with $1750 suspended, loss of hunting license for one year, loss of hunting rifle, and placed on probation for one year.  The conviction is the result of an Alaska Wildlife Trooper investigation that occurred on Lindenberg Peninsula, in Game Management Unit 3 after the closure of that areas deer season.
