Ship Creek Fisheries Center Will Close to the Public

(Anchorage)- Out of an abundance of caution, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (Department) announced today that the Ship Creek Fisheries Center, located at the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery in Anchorage, will close to the public effective immediately through at least October 31, 2021.

“Due to the high amount of public interaction that occurs at the Ship Creek Fisheries Center, we’ve decided to close the facility through October to help keep the public and hatchery employees safe,” Molly McCarthy-Cunfer, the Ship Creek Fisheries Center Supervisor, said. “We will reevaluate the closure in mid-October.”

The decision to reopen will be based on the best information available in the upcoming weeks. Although the Fisheries Center in Anchorage will be closed, the outside path along Ship Creek will remain open for members of the public. Please visit the hatchery Facebook page to stay up-to-date on all happenings within the facility, even during the closure.

This closure will not impact fish production at the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery. The Department remains committed to providing diverse sportfishing opportunities for Alaskans through its hatchery enhancement program.
