
Pair Of Youth-Only Salmon Photos Open This Weekend
Youth-Only Coho Salmon Fishery at the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon on the Homer Spit
(Homer) – On Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., a portion of the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon will be reserved for youth anglers age 15 and younger. Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) staff will be present from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with loaner gear and to assist youth anglers with fishing for coho salmon. Loaner fishing rods will be available to check out and use on a first-come first-served basis.
Anglers 16 years and older may not fish in the posted area across from the lagoon entrance, but the remainder of the lagoon will remain open to all anglers. All other sport fishing regulations remain in effect for the fishing lagoon and are found on page 68 of the 2025 Southcentral Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations Summary Booklet. The bag and possession limits are six coho salmon of any size.
Coho salmon are best targeted in the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon by fishing herring or cured salmon roe under a bobber, or by fishing with a spinner.

Fish Creek Youth-Only Fishery Opens Saturday and Sunday, August 2-3
(Palmer) -The Fish Creek Youth-Only Fishery will open on Saturday and Sunday, August 2-3, 2025, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day. Fish Creek is located at Mile 16 on Knik-Goose Bay Road. The Youth-Only Fishery allows anglers 15 years and younger to fish for all species, except king salmon, in waters between the ADF&G markers at the mouth of Fish Creek and ADF&G markers ¼-mile upstream of Knik-Goose Bay Road.
All other sport fishing regulations remain in effect for Fish Creek. The daily bag and possession limit is three salmon; only two per day may be coho (silver) salmon. The fishery for anglers of all ages commences on the second Saturday in August, which is August 9 in 2025. This fishery is open 7 days a week from the hours of 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.
The Youth-Only Fisheries are open to anglers 15 years and younger and were established by the Alaska State Legislature and implemented by the Alaska Board of Fisheries to provide a special opportunity for young people to get out and go fishing.
While adults can assist youth anglers in landing a fish, this fishery is open to youth only, and is closed to anglers 16 years and up, including catch-and-release, during that time.
