North Endicott Arm Closed to Mountain Goat Hunting in Unit 1C
(Juneau) – Biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game in Douglas announce an early closure to the mountain goat hunting season under the state registration permit hunt RG013, for that portion of Unit 1C from the point of land northeast of Harbor Island along the north side of Endicott Arm to Dawes Glacier including Fords Terror and all drainages on the north side of Endicott Arm (see map below).
The there were 9 goat points (billy = 1 point; nanny = 2 points) available in the North Endicott Arm area this season. As of Friday, November 15, 2024, all of the available points have been harvested in this area. Due to the vulnerability of goats in this area to overharvest, the area will be closed by E.O. taking effect at 11:59 pm, Saturday, November 16, 2024. The last aerial survey of this area was conducted on October 28, 2023. At that time there were 203 adult goats, and 42 kids were observed. To help preserve this area for future goat hunting opportunities, this hunt area will be closed.
An Emergency Order (R1-22-24) was issued that closes the mountain goat season in this area on Saturday, November 16, 2024 @ 11:59 pm.
The remaining area of registration mountain goat hunt RG013, and all other mountain goat hunting regulations in Unit 1C remain unchanged and are not affected by this Emergency Order.
