East Side of Chilkoot Lake and Lutak Inlet Closed to Mountain Goat Hunting in Unit 1D
(Douglas)-The guideline harvest level for mountain goats has been met along the eastern side of Chilkoot Lake and Lutak Inlet, from Taiyasanka Harbor to the northern end of Chilkoot Lake. An emergency order (R1-12-25) was issued to close the goat hunting season in this area at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Based on aerial survey data a guideline harvest level of 1-2 points (male goat=1 point & female goat=2 points) was established for the area described above. As of October 1, 2025, two male goats have been harvested in this area, for a total of 2 points. Since the guideline harvest level has been met, this emergency order (R1-12-25) is being issued.
Those portions of Unit 1D not affected by this emergency order, and not previously closed, will remain open until the guideline harvest levels have been reached or the seasons have ended.
Biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game encourage hunters to continue to target male goats to allow for a higher sustainable harvest. Hunters with questions about goat hunting can contact Hannah Manninen, in the Douglas Area Office at 907-465-4329.
