Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament Monitoring The Weather, But Hopeful To Hold Event Saturday

As Homer prepares for its annual Winter King Salmon Tournament – and back to its traditional third week in March date – the popular tourney’s organizers are keeping an eye out for the weather.

Here’s the official press release from the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center from late Wednesday night that explains the potential for a delay/postponement:

As the Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament approaches, our committee is closely monitoring the weather forecasts for this weekend. While the weather can be unpredictable, we are committed to providing a safe and fair tournament experience for all.

In the event a small craft advisory is issued, we will consider delaying the tournament. We will make every effort to give participants as much advance notice as possible, but we may need to make the final decision as late as 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Rest assured that we will keep you informed of any updates or changes to the tournament schedule as decisions are made. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the safety of our anglers is our highest priority.

Follow the Homer Winter King Salmon Facebook page for news and updates. You can also call the Homer Chamber of Commerce office at 907-235-7740.

Thank you for your continued support of the Homer Winter King Salmon Tournament.

But there is optimism the tournament will go on as planned. “We’re keeping a close eye on the conditions,” Homer Chamber executive director Brad Anderson said in an email. “They issued a small craft advisory for Friday but so far, Saturday looks doable. We will likely lose some of the smaller boats. … The winners will certainly feel like they accomplished something this year!”
