Hiker In Hospital After Bear Attack On Trail Near Anchorage
Another bear attack, this time on the Basher Trail near Anchorage, has left a hiker hospitalized with what officials describe as “non-life-threatening” injuries. Here’s more from the Anchorage Daily News:
The woman contacted emergency officials after the attack and was able to continue speaking to them as rescuers tried to locate her, according to Barraza. Ultimately, he said, APD used a drone to find her.
“She’s not able to walk, and they were having trouble locating her,” he said. “She called us, she was on the phone with us the entire time.”
Rescue personnel from several departments were at the scene Tuesday assisting with location and extraction, including the Anchorage Fire Department, Alaska Wildlife Troopers and personnel from nearby Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. An Alaska Department of Public Safety helicopter was in the air over the area as well, according to department spokesman Austin McDaniel.
