Goat Hunt RG232 Closes, West of Scott Glacier
(Cordova) – Registration permit hunt RG232 for mountain goats in Game Management Unit 6C will close by emergency order at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23. The hunt includes that portion of Unit 6C east of Scott Glacier and the main channel of Scott River, north of the Copper River Highway, and west of Sheridan Glacier and the main channel of Glacier River.
The last quality aerial survey conducted found a minimum count of 319 goats in registration permit area RG232. The maximum allowable harvest is 12 goat points. The current reported harvest is 7 billies, 2 females and one unrecoverable goat for a total of 12.5 goat points; each billy counts as one goat point, each nanny counts as two goat points and each unrecoverable goat counts as 1.5 goat points. Hunters remain in the field and it is likely that additional goats have been taken and not yet reported. Harvest that exceeds objectives could lead to reduced future hunting opportunity.
This closure affects only registration permit hunt RG232 in Unit 6C. All other mountain goat hunting regulations in the remainder of Unit 6 are not affected by this emergency order.
