On Tuesday, June 25, a purse seine vessel ran aground in Anita Bay and sunk. Oil containment booms were applied that day and the fuel tank vents were plugged. Salvage efforts began late Wednesday, June 26. The boat is located near the head of Anita Bay at 56°12.15? N lat, 132°29.12? W long.
Fishermen are advised to stay clear of salvage efforts. Fishermen are also advised that there may be fuel contaminants in the bay, especially at the head of the bay, and to ensure the area is clear of any contaminants before deploying fishing gear. The State of Alaska has a zero-tolerance policy with respect to fuel contamination of seafood and may close the area if there are reports of contaminated seafood, boats, or fishing gear.
