State Opens Winter Moose Hunt RM843

(Nome) – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announces an emergency order to open the State resident moose season in Unit 22(B), that portion west of the Darby Mountains, by registration permit hunt RM843 (Note: this area is identified as the Remainder of Unit 22(B) in the hunting regulations booklet) at 12:01am on February 8, 2025. The RM843 season will remain open through February 28, 2025 or until the quota of 6 antlered bulls is met. Permits for RM843 will continue to be available in person only at vendors in White Mountain and Golovin.

The department set an annual harvest quota of 40 bulls for regulatory year 2024-2025 based on the results of the 2022 spring abundance survey. The Alaska Board of Game established a moose registration permit hunt in Unit 22(B) West which is administered with a quota to prevent overharvest. As of the season closing date of January 31, 2025 the total harvest for regulatory year 2024-2025 is currently at 34 bulls taken out of the quota of 40.

The City of White Mountain and City of Golovin have requested additional hunting opportunity due to poor hunting conditions during the regular RM843 season of January 1–31. Additional harvest of 6 antlered bulls is warranted during the announced season dates of February 8–28. If the quota is met before the season date announced in this emergency order, additional emergency orders will be announced to close the season and prevent overharvest.

All other moose hunting regulations in Unit 22 remain unchanged by this emergency order.
