Bipartisan Legislation Would Restore Animal Migration Corridors

Bipartisan Bill to Restore Migration Corridors Benefits Wildlife, Sporting Traditions

DENVER (June 24, 2021) — The Wildlife Movement Through Partnerships Act, announced by Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) in the Senate and Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.) and Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) in the House, will help restore, enhance, and maintain migration pathways that big game and other species rely on for their survival. The bipartisan legislation will provide funding and technical assistance for states and Tribal Nations to research and implement voluntary conservation projects, including habitat improvement, fence modification, and efforts to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions. 

“Wildlife depend on connected habitats and pathways for seasonal migration but in recent years, hunters have seen first-hand how these migration corridors have become fragmented by development and impacts from climate change,” said Jeremy Romero, wildlife connectivity manager at the National Wildlife Federation. “We applaud the bipartisan effort in Congress to ensure these critical areas are restored so big game and other species can survive and our Western heritage and traditions can thrive.”
