Authorities Searching For Missing Hunter From Wainwright
A hunter, whose name has not been released by officials, has been missing since Dec. 15 as search efforts continue on Alaska’s North Slope.
Here’s more from the Anchorage Daily News:
The missing person, not identified by the officials, left Wainwright on the morning of Dec. 15on a hunting trip and was reported overdue that night, according to a statement from the North Slope Borough. Multiple search crews from Wainwright, Atqasuk, Utqia?vik and Point Lay searched for the hunter at local camps, cabins and hunting trails.
On Dec. 19, the Alaska Department of Public Safety activated the Alaska Dive Search, Rescue, and Recovery Team to aid in the search, said Austin McDaniel, communications director with the Alaska State Troopers.
“The North Slope Borough is leading these search efforts,” McDaniel said.
The dive team posted on Facebook that they were sending two members from Anchorage to Wainwright on Dec. 20. The divers planned to deploy with a remotely operated vehicle, sector-scanning sonar and limited dive gear, the post said.
Here’s the Dec. 20 Facebook post from Alaska Dive Search Rescue and Recovery Team, which also includes information on how to donate to this volunteer organization:
Two Team Members will be deploying from Anchorage at 8 am tomorrow morning in route to Wainwright (weather permitting). They will be deploying with our Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), Sector Scan Sonar and limited dive gear.
As a donation funded, unpaid, all volunteer, 501(c)(3) Non Profit team, we still need your donations so we can get needed maintenance done on our equipment.
