Alaskans Among Protests Following National Park Service Employee Firings
Alaskans were among those protesting a recent purge of Trump administration firings from federal agencies such as the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service and NOAA (see video above). Here’s more from Alaska’s News Source:
Morgan Saladino is another Alaskan now unemployed in the name of DOGE’s plan for governmental efficiency.
In her work with NOAA fisheries, she was part of a three-person team, which she says has now been reduced to one person. As a fisheries biologist, she believes Alaskans will feel the impact of a reduction in the workforce that promotes state industries.
“If we don’t have the fish populations to maintain so that the fishermen can feed their families, so that Native Alaskans can catch salmon in the streams for decades to come to feed their families, there will be major ripple effects,” Saladino said.
Saladino said she doesn’t understand why cutting employees she believes are crucial would be beneficial to a more efficient government. “I’m optimistic in the sense that I hope it’s because the people making these decisions really have no idea what we do,“ Saladino said. ”But by then, the damage is already done. So much damage can happen so quickly.
