Game Management Unit 2 Wolf Management Public Outreach Events

(Ketchikan) – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), Division of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) will modify the Game Management Unit (GMU) 2 wolf management plan in 2024. Our goal is to update the 2019 plan based on recent research and our experience implementing the 2019 plan. As a part of this update, DWC will hold two professionally facilitated public outreach events to discuss current management and research. A diverse range of participants within and outside Alaska are invited to participate.

The first public outreach event will be held Friday, May 24th at 6:00pm at the Vocational and Technical Education Center in Klawock. We encourage in-person participation, but the event will be streamed via Zoom to allow remote participation. During this event, DWC staff will recap development of the 2019 plan, explain the scope and sideboards for updating that plan, and discuss wolf research in Southeast Alaska. This facilitated meeting will be streamed via Zoom: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82046640241?pwd=Rb-x5LPJocjjyjXRGCiVreAyJOg.MrHnBL50cxeKAwLz

The second event will be held Friday, June 14th at 6:00pm at the Vocational and Technical Education Center in Klawock. DWC staff will present a draft updated management plan and then open the floor for discussion and comments. This meeting will be streamed via Zoom with link provided closer to the meeting date. Hard copies of the draft plan will be provided.

After the second event, ADF&G will accept additional public comments for 30 days. These comments and comments recorded during the second event will be taken into consideration when finalizing the management plan. Our goal is to publish the updated management plan before the 2024 trapping season. The final management plan will be posted to ADF&G’s website at: https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=wolfhunting.resources.
