ADFG Officers Kill Black Bear That Had Been Entering Into JBER Hospital
A black bear that had been entering the hospital at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage was killed by Alaska Department of Fish and Game officers. Here’s more from the Anchorage Daily News:
As Warnke turned down a dark hallway to leave the facility, a large black bear stepped just a couple dozen of feet in front of her from an adjoining hall, ambled away, and blocked the exit as it feasted on a bucket of Halloween candy, Warnke said. Hospital staff eventually escorted her out of the hallway.
“I have never seen black bear that big,” Warnke said in an interview Tuesday. “I’m glad he chose the treats because I didn’t have a lot of tricks for him if I had to figure out how to get out of my situation.”
JBER officials said in a statement emailed Wednesday that the bear “was safely escorted out” of the hospital by military security and wildlife personnel.
But state wildlife biologists killed the animal after it returned to the hospital two more times that same day, military officials said.
