ADFG Closes Bering River Registration Moose Hunt

Bering River Registration Moose Hunt Closes

(Cordova) – Registration permit hunt RM160 for bull moose in Game Management Unit 6A West, known as the Bering River or Controller Bay moose hunt, will close at 11:59 p.m. on September 25, by emergency order. The hunt area for RM160 includes the western portions of Unit 6A (all drainages into the Gulf of Alaska between Cape Suckling and Palm Point).

The 2026 moose population estimate for Unit 6A West, drainages between Cape Suckling to Palm Point, is 213 moose. The department set a maximum allowable harvest of 15 bulls in the registration hunt (RM160) and the current reported registration harvest is 15 bulls. Hunters currently remain in the field, therefore, it is possible that additional moose have been taken and are not yet reported. This closure is necessary to prevent excessive harvest.

This closure affects only registration permit hunt RM160 in Unit 6A West. DM160 and all other moose hunting regulations in the remainder of Game Management Unit 6 are not affected by this emergency order.
