South Tracy Arm Closed to Mountain Goat Hunting in Unit 1C
(Juneau) – Biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game in Douglas announce an early closure to the mountain goat hunting season under the state registration permit hunt RG013, for that portion of Unit 1C west and south of Tracy Arm starting at the point on the mainland east of Harbor Island up into the bay to the South Sawyer Glacier and up the middle of the glacier to the Canadian border, then, also, from the point on the mainland east of Harbor Island continuing up the ridge all of the area north of the ridgeline separating the drainages flowing into Tracy Arm from those flowing into Endicott Arm all the way to the Canadian border.
The seasonal goat points available in the South Tracy area this year were 9 points (billy = 1 point; nanny = 2 points). As of Friday, November 14, 2025, seven billies and one nanny have been harvested in this area for a total of nine points. Because the guideline harvest level has been met, the area will be closed by E.O. taking effect at 11:59 pm, Saturday, November 15, 2025. To help preserve this area for future goat hunting opportunities, this hunt will be closed at this time.
An Emergency Order (R1-19-25) was issued that closes the mountain goat season in this area on Saturday, November 15, 2025 @ 11:59 pm.
The remaining area of registration mountain goat hunt RG013, and all other mountain goat hunting regulations in Unit 1C remain unchanged unless previously closed by a separate emergency order.
