No Bids In Cook Inlet Lease Sale; Center For Biological Diversity: “What An Embarrassment”

Similar to a 2025 sale that went unbid on in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, a Trump administration priority to create new drilling opportunities in the Last Frontier saw a Cook Inlet lease draw no bids.

The Bureau of Energy Management updated its lease sale press release with this bit of news:

Mar 4At this time, no bids have been received. In accordance with OBBBA, we will continue to hold leasing opportunities for Cook Inlet so that industry has a regular, predictable federal leasing schedule that ensures we achieve President Trump’s American Energy Dominance Agenda.

Among those longtime opponents of Trump’s desire to “Drill, Baby Drill” in Alaska and beyond, the Center For Biological Diversity released the following statement:

“What an embarrassment for Trump’s fossil fuel fantasy and what great news for Cook Inlet wildlife that this lease sale was such a flop,” said Cooper Freeman, Alaska director at the Center for Biological Diversity. “I’m deeply relieved for the inlet’s imperiled belugas and salmon, who just can’t take more oil and gas pollution if they’re going to have a fighting chance at truly recovering. It’s obvious that this sale was more about politics than practical energy needs. We need to focus on actions that will actually help Alaskans, like protecting our incredible wild places and marine life and transitioning to renewable energy for the long term.”
