Manokotak – Wednesday, July 20, 2025
New Stuyahok – Friday, August 1, 2025
If inclement weather prevents permits issuance on the scheduled date department staff will reschedule.
The RM583 season opens August 20 and closes September 15. Successful hunters are required to report to the Dillingham ADF&G office (phone: 907-842-2334) or online within 5 days of harvesting a moose. All permit reports must be returned to ADF&G, regardless of success, within 15 days of the close of the season.
For the last two years RM583 has been extended 5 days to September 20 by Emergency Order to provide additional harvest opportunity due to the uncertainty of good travel conditions in December for the may-be- announced winter hunt under RM585. Department staff can extend seasons as necessary to help meet harvest objectives; hunters should not expect to have a lengthened fall season this year.
The most recent population survey for 17C estimated 3,629 moose which exceeds the
departments management objective and survey data indicate high adult female survival, calf
production and calf recruitment to 1 year of age indicating a relatively healthy moose population.

It is important that any hunt permittees return their fall hunt reports to provide wildlife managers the information they need to understand harvest by mailing in their paper reports, completing them online athttps://secure.wildlife.alaska.gov/index.cfm?fuseaction=interperm.enter_report_hunterid, or in person at any Alaska Department of Fish and Game office.
