ADFG Updates Rescued, Distressed Wildlife From Haines Facility

In June, Alaska Department of Fish and Game authorities rescued wildlife from a Haines’ facility.

Here’s an update from ADFG on how the animals are doing:

Update on Animals from Facility in Haines

Below are the species and number of animals temporarily being held at each facility. Many of the animals will be permanently placed in these facilities but additional time is needed to determine the best option for each animal, and for the facilities. “In addition to health monitoring and treatment by veterinary staff, the behavior of these animals and their interaction with other animals is being monitored closely to ensure they are adjusting well,” said Division of Wildlife Conservation Director Ryan Scott.

The department’s priority is the health and welfare of the animals. These animals are now getting the highest level of care and husbandry, thanks to our partners assisting in this situation and our dedicated veterinary staff.

An unusual configuration of interconnected enclosures, as well as conditions at the wildlife center made it difficult to locate and recover some of the smaller animals there. The department continues to seek a path forward to secure the remaining animals at the Kroschel Wildlife Center. The safety and wellbeing of all these animals remains our primary focus, and we will make additional information available once we are able to release it.
