Closure of TM059 Moose Hunt in GMU 1D
(Douglas) – Biologists with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game announce the closure of the TM059 moose hunt in Game Management Unit (GMU) 1D. An emergency order (R1-10-26) was issued to close the season at 11:59 PM, Monday, October 5th, 2026.
The current management objective for the GMU 1D moose population is a harvest guideline level (HGL) of 20-25 bull moose with legal antler configuration of: spike/fork, 3 brow tines on at least one antler, or a 50-inch antler spread. As of October 3rd, 2026, 24 bulls have been harvested. Of the 24 moose harvested, 9 moose had spike/fork antler configuration, 9 moose had 3 or more brow tines on one side, 5 moose had at least a 50-inch antler spread, and 1 moose was sublegal. Additional hunters remain in the field, and it is likely that the upper limit of the management objective has been met or exceeded. To prevent overharvest and ensure sustainable future hunting opportunity, this emergency order (R1-10-26) is being issued.
