Denali Park, AK – Vernon Cody is joining Denali National Park and Preserve as the next Deputy Superintendent. Cody is currently serving as the Superintendent of Hovenweep and Natural Bridges National Monuments in Utah.

“I am extremely honored to serve as the new Deputy Superintendent at Denali and to be a part of a dedicated team in managing the spectacular natural and cultural resources at Denali National Park,” Cody said.

Cody has worked for the National Park Service for over 29 years, and recently completed an assignment as the Deputy Superintendent at Glen Canyon National Recreational Area. Cody previously worked as Facility Manager at Flagstaff Area National Monuments, as Maintenance Supervisor at Grand Canyon National Park, and served on numerous detail assignments at national parks in the four corners area. Cody developed an appreciation of Alaska park issues while on detail at Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve in 2018.

Denali Superintendent Brooke Merrell said, “Vernon is known for his operational acumen, partnership building, and capable caring for both teams and individual employees. All of this will be very welcome in the superintendent’s office.”

Cody’s anticipated arrival in Denali is in late April.
