Board Of Fisheries To Hold Commercial Herring Fishery Meeting On Oct. 31

JOINT COMMITTEE OF THE ALASKA BOARD OF FISHERIES AND COMMERCIAL FISHERIES ENTRY COMMISSION ON ALASKA HERRING REVITALIZATION

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING

October 31, 2024, 9-11am

Through the Alaska Board of Fisheries (board) Charge Statement 2024-304-FB, the board and the Alaska Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission (commission) formed a joint committee to review the commercial herring industry statewide. The review will focus on current and potential markets, differences among Alaska’s regional herring fisheries, and potential legal pathways to resolve changes to regulatory systems. Through information gained by the committee, both the board and commission may independently consider governance changes to improve the Alaska herring industry.

The committee is holding its third meeting on October 31, 2024, at 9:00-11:00 am. The meeting will be held via web conference. The meeting can be accessed via web or phone at:

The purpose of this meeting is to review economic and market research that occurred over the summer, review western Alaska herring fisheries and stocks, hear an update on the Kodiak Herring Food and Bait optimum numbers study, provide for open public testimony, and plan for future meetings.
