Registration Open For Homer’s New-Look Halibut Tournament

In 2019, Homer announced its usual summer-long halibut tournament would be reduced to a single-weekend event starting in 2020. But the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the scheduled July 2020 tournament. The event is back on for this year and is set for June 4-5.

Here’s more from the Homer Chamber of Commerce:

Homer is open for business and we are very pleased to welcome you to the 1st Annual  2021 Homer Halibut Tournament, Friday & Saturday June 4-5 2021. Your registration fee includes fishing on both days.

Homer Alaska is known worldwide as the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World. For 34 years, the Homer Chamber of Commerce has held the Jackpot Halibut Derby running through the summer months. In 2021, this has shifted to the First Annual Homer Halibut Tournament which will be a 2-day fishing tournament to see who can pull in the biggest “barn door” and come home with the jackpot. The $100 entry fee lets you fish both days to chase big ‘buts, or enter side tourneys for a multispecies grand slam and other exciting challenges. There will also be many random prize drawings throughout the tournament.

Tournament Headquarters and Weigh-Ins will be held by the Deep Water Dock in the Homer Harbor at 4667 Freight Dock Road. There will be an event area set up in that same section of the Harbor with Food Trucks, Beer Garden, Music and Award Ceremonies.

All event activities will be outdoors and conducted in accordnace with current COVID-19 Alaska State Health Guidelines. Face coverings social distancing are recommended when interacting with unrelated parties in the Event Area.

Don’t miss your chance to win big prize money and enjoy world-class fishing!
